Gamescom can place hundreds of games within walking distance. That doesn't mean you'll have time to play all of them.
Gamescom 2026 takes place at Koelnmesse in Cologne from August 26 to 30. Gamescom Opening Night Live takes place one day earlier, on Tuesday, August 25.
The event is organised by Koelnmesse and game, the German Games Industry Association. It brings publishers, developers, creators, gaming professionals and fans together in Cologne.
Planning matters. Public access changes by day, ticket prices vary, and some demos or creator signings require separate time slots. Hotels and trains also become busier as the event approaches.
Your phone will carry your ticket, train information, hotel address, hall information and Fastlane bookings. A clear plan can save hours after the doors open.

Gamescom runs for five main exhibition days, but standard public admission begins on Thursday.
Opening Night Live officially opens the main Gamescom festival on August 25 with trailers, world premieres and announcements.
Gamescom 2026 runs from Wednesday, August 26, through Sunday, August 30.
Wednesday is the main trade visitor and media day. Private visitors can enter the entertainment area from 1:00 p.m. with a limited Wildcard. Standard public tickets cover Thursday through Sunday.
Opening Night Live is a separate show on Tuesday evening. It focuses on announcements, trailers and stage presentations rather than normal public access to the exhibition halls.
Public opening hours and individual booth schedules may differ. For example, Xbox has announced the following hours for its Hall 7 booth:
These are Xbox booth hours, not a promise that every area follows the same schedule. Check the official programme and your priority exhibitors before leaving your hotel.
Standard Gamescom 2026 day tickets cost €31.50 on Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Saturday costs €41.
The prices below were checked against the official Gamescom ticket page on August 6, 2026. Prices and availability may change.
Evening tickets provide entry from 4:00 p.m. They cost less because you only receive the final part of the public day.
Discounted tickets are available to eligible groups. These may include pupils, students, trainees, pensioners, seniors, disabled visitors and voluntary service workers. Bring valid proof of eligibility.
Family tickets have specific rules for group size and children's ages. Check the current conditions in the official ticket shop before paying.
A Gamescom Congress ticket does not include general Gamescom admission. You need a separate visitor or business ticket for the main exhibition.
Saturday costs more and may attract particularly strong demand. Thursday or Friday gives many first-time visitors a better balance of price and access.
Gamescom is not one large room filled with console demos. Koelnmesse is divided into areas designed for different interests.
The official Gamescom programme also covers creators, social-stage events, esports, career activities and community experiences. The cards and boards area is listed in Hall 5.2.
Confirmed exhibitors include Xbox, Nintendo, Capcom, Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, Sega, Konami and Bandai Namco.
Other confirmed companies include CD Projekt Red, HoYoverse, Level Infinite, Tencent Games, NetEase, Krafton, Google Play, Deep Silver, Focus Entertainment and The LEGO Group.
Gamescom has announced that all available 2026 exhibition space is booked. A confirmed exhibitor does not automatically mean every announced game will be playable.
A company may bring hands-on demos, trailers, interviews, stage presentations or community activities.
Level Infinite has confirmed that it will attend. Its full list of playable games and booth activities should still be checked through the live exhibitor and product search.
Xbox has announced a Hall 7 booth with 25 upcoming games across 140 gaming stations.
The booth will also include adjustable gaming stations, adaptive controllers, a quiet room, sensory items and selected accessibility services.
Treat publisher announcements as separate from the main Gamescom programme. Booth details can change, and not every listed title will offer the same type of experience.
Use the official exhibitor search to find current companies and products. Recheck the final hall allocation before travelling because booth positions may still change.
The exhibitor database is active, while another official hall-plan page still says the full allocation will be published before the event.
Gamescom week includes more than the main public exhibition.
Gamescom Dev begins on August 23 to 25, 2026. The Gamescom Congress takes place on August 27 at Confex.
Gamescom GDQ marks the European Gamescom debut of Games Done Quick. The programme will run from Friday to Sunday, with close to ten hours of speedrunning content each day.
The Awesome Indies Show will give independent studios a larger international platform. The official programme also includes the event arena, studio broadcasts and community shows.
Köln Messe/Deutz is the most convenient rail station for Koelnmesse. It sits directly beside the exhibition grounds.
The official Koelnmesse arrival guide lists the rail and tram connections serving the exhibition grounds.
Köln Messe/Deutz also serves high-speed trains and is located next to the exhibition grounds.
Some Koelnmesse admission products include a separate VRS public transport ticket by email. Check the documents sent with your Gamescom ticket rather than assuming transport is included.
Most visitors do not need a rental car. Rail avoids parking searches and takes you close to the venue.
Driving may still suit visitors carrying professional equipment or staying outside the local rail network.
Check your platform before travelling. Construction, congestion and temporary timetable changes can affect familiar routes.
Deutz is the easiest area for reaching Koelnmesse. Staying near Köln Messe/Deutz can reduce the morning transport rush.
Rooms close to the venue face strong demand. Book refundable accommodation when possible.
Do not judge a hotel only by straight-line distance. Check how many train or tram changes you need to reach Köln Messe/Deutz.
Your Gamescom budget should include the event ticket, accommodation, airport transfer, local transport, food, mobile data and merchandise. Keep a small reserve for late trains or last-minute changes.
One day is enough to experience the atmosphere, but not enough to cover every major booth and stage.
Pick two or three priorities. Everything else becomes a bonus.
Avoid crossing the entire venue for every activity. Group nearby halls together and leave part of the day open for delays.
You can also use the eSIMCard app to purchase, install and manage your travel data plan from your phone.
Fastlane lets valid ticket holders book time slots at selected games and booths.
The booking option becomes available two hours before the bookable slot. Visitors can book multiple Fastlane slots, but every booking remains subject to availability.
A general admission ticket does not guarantee a Fastlane slot. Check early because popular times can disappear quickly.
The signing area requires a separate booking. Creator timeslots become available two hours before the signing starts. A normal admission ticket does not guarantee that you will meet a creator.
Save the booking QR code after receiving it. Keep a screenshot in case your mobile connection slows down.
You will spend hours walking, standing and checking your phone. Pack for that reality.
Bring comfortable shoes, a charged power bank, a charging cable and official photo identification. Save an offline copy of your ticket and hotel address.
A lightweight bag is easier to manage in crowded halls. Pack medication, a light rain layer and ear protection when loud booths become tiring. Germany uses plug types C and F. Photo identification also matters for age-restricted games.
Gamescom works with Germany's USK youth-protection organisation and uses wristbands for content rated 12, 16 and 18. Visitors only receive access to restricted games and trailers with the correct wristband.
Children under four cannot enter Gamescom, even when accompanied by a parent.
Children aged four to six receive free admission after an age check at the entrance. Children aged four to eleven must stay with an adult. Visitors aged twelve and older may enter without adult supervision.
The Gamescom Juniors Club is located in the retro and family area. It is designed for children aged four to twelve and operates from Thursday to Sunday.
Koelnmesse places Köln Messe/Deutz next to the venue and provides information for step-free arrival.
Accessible toilets, lifts and route planning are available across the exhibition grounds. Support can still differ between halls and exhibitors.
Contact the organiser before travel when you need specific mobility, sensory or communication support.
Xbox has confirmed adjustable-height stations, adaptive controllers, a quiet room and sensory items at its booth. It will also provide selected sign-language interpretation and audio description.
These services apply to Xbox's booth. Do not assume every Gamescom area offers the same support.
The improved 2026 location finder is expected to help visitors find facilities such as accessible toilets and free water dispensers.
Before purchasing, choose the right eSIM plan based on your trip length, countries visited and expected data usage.
Your phone becomes part of your Gamescom plan. You may need it for mobile tickets, train updates, the exhibitor search, Fastlane bookings, signing timeslots and group messages.
Public Wi-Fi can slow down when thousands of visitors connect at once. Keep mobile data available and save your ticket, hotel address and return route offline.
International visitors can install an eSIMCard Germany eSIM before leaving home. It provides travel data for maps, messaging, transport apps and event updates without replacing a physical SIM card.
Choose a Germany eSIM when your trip stays within Germany. A Europe eSIM may suit you better if you also plan to visit nearby countries such as France, Belgium or the Netherlands.
Before buying, check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked from its carrier. Install the plan while you still have reliable Wi-Fi.
Review the live eSIMCard product page for the data allowance, validity, supported networks, hotspot availability and fair-use terms.
Plan details may vary, so choose based on how much you expect to browse, upload or share during Gamescom.
Dial *#06# and look for an EID number. An EID usually indicates that the phone has eSIM capability, but model and regional restrictions may still apply.
You can also check your settings:
Confirm your exact model on the eSIM-compatible devices list before buying. Your phone must also be unlocked from its carrier before you install a travel eSIM.
Gamescom 2026 takes place in Cologne from August 26 to 30. Opening Night Live starts the main show week on August 25.
Choose your ticket before booking transport. Then select two or three must-see activities instead of trying to cover every hall.
Recheck the exhibitor search, final hall allocation, programme and train schedule before leaving. Screenshot your ticket, hotel and return route.
For mobile access, choose an eSIMCard Germany plan for a Germany-only visit or a Europe eSIM for a multi-country trip. Install it before departure so your bookings are ready when you arrive.
